Let’s hear it for Halifax!
There are many reasons to visit Halifax. The historic market town lies at the heart of West Yorkshire. So it has all the character you would expect of the legendary county. Situated between the Yorkshire Dales at the Peak District, Halifax is also a great base for exploring the country. And being close to Leeds and Bradford, as well as Manchester and Sheffield, it’s easy to get to as well. The town itself also has a wealth of shops, bars and restaurants. As well as a unique music and arts venue.
Get a Piece of the action
You don’t have to go to a big city to see some of the top touring bands. This summer alone, Halifax’s Piece Hall is welcoming acts as diverse as Noel Gallagher’s Flying Birds and veteran rockers Status Quo. As well as indie legends like PJ Harvey and the Pixies. That’s not to mention Richard Ashcroft, McFly and Fatboy Slim. Just check out the summer line-up for yourself!
The Piece Hall also has its own art gallery, shops and cafes, so it’s worth visiting at any time of day. The Grade I listed building also has a fascinating history. Built in 1799, as a cloth trading market, it’s now the only example of its kind still in existence. It was very much an architectural statement. Its neo-classical design symbolised the wealth, pride and ambition of the local cloth manufacturers. Later, the building was used for various purposes, on one occasion including hot air ballooning!
Halifax extras
If you are coming to town for a gig or event at the Piece Hall, why not stay a little longer? There’s plenty more to do and see. There’s a proper, old-fashioned indoor market. The stunning Victorian building is perfect for browsing for local delicacies. There are butchers, fishmongers and greengrocers. As well as plenty of cakes and other treats. And activities for kids too. If you’re looking for something more challenging, Halifax has its very own escape room. And once you’ve broken free, why not reward yourself with a craft ale at the Halifax Steam Brewing Company?
